Carpet Cleaning Chelsea Today

Tuesday, October 11th, 2016

Eco Cleaning London has been working in the Chelsea postcode for a number of years.  We provide customers with a variety of services from end of tenancy to carpet cleaning Chelsea.  In this post I want to outline some of the issues regarding carpet cleaning and what to look out for when you get round to getting them cleaned. With the cost of new ones in the region of a thousand pound or more it’s worth taking your time when hiring.

Why should I get my Chelsea carpets regularly cleaned?

If you ask any carpet manufacture how often your carpets should be cleaned then they’ll probably tell you anywhere between every 6 months and every 2 years.  That difference is down to the fact that each house is different.  If you’ve got young kids you’d probably want to get them done on a fairly regular basis.  Spillages, sickness and the like should be dealt with as soon as possible to reduce the risk that you carpet will be stained.  It’s a fact that stains left for months are more difficult to remove than ones which happened only the day before.  Time matters because often a lengthy delay will make it impossible to remove.  For couples and those on their own you’d probably want to get your carpets cleaned every year to 18 months.

What’s the benefit of cleaning my carpet?

Again the answer to this will be different depending on who you ask.  My take on it is that carpets act as a large filter in your home.   The carpet fibers trap airborne dust in them and this is then collected up when you vacuum.  Have ever noticed that in properties with wooden flooring there tends to be lots of dust swirling about?  Many people think that getting rid of the carpets will improve the air quality.  I think it’s the exact opposite.   Over a period of time your carpet will require a deep clean to flush out all the dust and such which is trapped deep within the pile.  A good carpet cleaner, with the correct equipment, will be able to do this task in a quick and safe manner without damaging your floor coverings.

Should I get my carpets eco cleaned?

The answer to this is an obvious yes from us.  The quality of green cleaning products has improved greatly over the last decade or so.  It’s now no longer necessary to use powerful chemicals to get the desired level of cleaning results.  Plant based solutions can get exactly the same effects without you compromising the quality of the air you and your family breath within your home.  Eco products include stain spotters, allergy treatment, sanitisers and more.  Ask your carpet cleaner what product they’ll be using and why they’re not using eco-friendly ones.  Your home environment is crucial to your well being.

Can you remove stains from my carpet?

Removing stains is an essential part of carpet cleaning that we all wish we could guarantee.  Many companies advertise that they guarantee the removal of stains.  Eco Cleaning London does not use this ploy because we believe in being honest with our customers.  It’s a simple fact that some things will permanently damage your carpet.  We’ve all attended a job where there is an ols stain that many people have tried to remove.  It’s still there because it’s permanent.  We find that giving an honest prediction of the outcome is better for us and the customer.

Despite the above we do remove many, many carpet stains.  We use a variety of techniques and spotters to remove many wine, oil and other spillages.  The best thing to do is to contact your carpet cleaner as soon as possible once you’ve created the stain.  This is a better option than buying the first carpet stain remover you see in the supermarket.  Many a person has ruined their carpet by trying to do it themselves.  Often the spotter they use is not suitable for what they spilt or the type of carpet they have.  carpet cleaning in Chelsea

Carpet Cleaning Silk and Seagrass Carpets

When it comes to carpeting your home or office it’s really important that you choose the correct type of carpet to lay.  I know this only too well from running a business carpet cleaning in London for nearly 10 years.  Choose the wrong one and you can have big problems with maintaining it.  This has become an increasingly big problems as people choose more unusual types of carpets for their homes and sometimes even office.  When I talk about maintaining a carpet I mean the ability to clean it, remove stains and generally keep it looking neat and tidy.

One of the most basic issues in this discussion is the colour of the carpet.  Over the years there has been a big increase in people fitting beige, and sometime nearly white, coloured carpets in their properties.  I can understand why they do this.  A light coloured carpet makes the property look bigger and brighter.  This is particularly appealing if you’re trying to sell or rent out a property.  It’s all about perception.

Unfortunately light coloured carpets are not very practical in shared house, students for example, and for those with young families.  In these scenarios you tend to get a lot of spillages and accidents.   When this happens people don’t alway think of calling for a carpet cleaner and tend to choose to have a go themselves.  To help you choose a reliable company see this post.  This usually involves the use of inappropriate spotters from the supermarket and can make things worse.   So the moral of the story is choose a carpet colour that suits who’s living in a property.  It will extend the life of it and reduce the amount of time and effort you need to maintain it.

Another important issue is to choose a carpet type that is cleanable.  As much as a part silk, or bamboo based rug or carpet looks great there is a big issue when it comes down to carpet cleaning.  Buying a rug that is only dry cleanable means you have issues when it comes to dealing with the kids spilling some food or being sick on it.  Quite often you simply won’t be able to get rid of the stain.  Recently I saw a heavily stained wool and silk rug which had been placed under the family dining table.  The family had young kids and it wasn’t long before this rug was beyond cleaning.

Another carpet type that I see often throughout London is seagrass type flooring.  This stuff is remarkably durable and will last for many years more than many wool or synthetic type surfaces.  However, as London carpet cleaners will agree on, they are terrible to clean.  Using water on such surfaces will lead to issues of shrinkage and water marks.  The other available carpet cleaning methods are often not able to remove problem stain and general traffic lane problems.  Again I have seen people put this flooring in dining rooms and living room where kids play and eat.

This leads us back to what type of carpet should you use.  I’d normally suggest either wool, a wool and synthetic mix, or a simply synthetic carpets.  While we could discuss the merits of each for a long time it usually comes down to cost.  Wool carpets cost significantly more but will last for a lot longer.  They will respond well to cleaning and will look good years after cheaper carpets will have needed replace.

We have years of experience cleaning all manner of carpets in the London area.  We have cleaned them all using a variety of different techniques from standard Hot Water Extraction, or steam cleaning, to completely dry methods.  We have remove stains from all manner of carpets and rugs, again using a multitude of different chemicals and spotters.  These days we do all this using green cleaning methods and solutions.   So, for carpet cleaning London, give us a call today on 0203 598 6188.

Carpet Cleaning Fulham Odour Problem

A recent carpet cleaning job in Fulham, SW6 raised some interesting problems.   The carpet was in a rental propery on Munster Road and had beige carpets throughout the property.  We were asked to clean the property as the customer was moving out and needed an end of tenancy cleaning.

The carpet cleaning appeared to be a straight forward task except one major problem.  The customer had had a cat which had urinated in various locations.  The big problem with this is that a standard carpet clean is usually not sufficient to rid the propery of the smell.  Quite simply the urine goes through the carpet and onto the underlay and, quite often the floorboards.    A standard steam clean of the carpet cleans the fibres of the carpet.  It does not clean the base of the carpet or the underlay.  On this occasion the customer decided to call in carpet fitters and replace the underlay in the parts effected.  We used a neutraliser on the carpet, left it for a significant time, and continued with the clean.

In addition to the above there were various stains on the carpet.  Fortunately these were not serious and were treated with standard spotters and removed.  We also offer the encapsulation carpet cleaning, so why not ask us about this.

When you are faced with a similar problem,  and require carpet cleaning fulham, give us a call.  We have a wealth of experience in dealing with all sorts of problems.  From red wine stains to oil marks we have the knowledge and the cleaning solutions to save the day!

Carpet Cleaning Chelsea – Cleaning Filthy Carpets

The above photo looks over the Thames towards Chelsea.  It was taken during a break from cleaning carpets in a large two bedroom property in the newly built riverside apartments.  The carpets were standard cut pile ones which were looking in a bad way after the tenants had moved out.  To find out more about carpet cleaning Chelsea read on.

The standard approach is to use steam cleaning on domestic carpets but when they’re in a real bad way you’ve got to change your approach.  In this case we used what you call a contra rotating brush on them.  These brushes, which we often use on office carpets, can often transform carpets which look to be finished.  The lift the pile and also get the cleaning solution into the base of the carpet.  The aggitation created by the tough brushes loosens dirt which has become ingrained over the months and years.  When you then go over the carpet with the tradition hot water extraction, commonly called steam cleaning, you get fantastic results.

The use of two methods of cleaning may appear to be a time consuming exercise but it’s actually the opposite.  While the time taken to set things up is increased it significantly reduces the latter stages of the process.
