Carpet Cleaning Silk and Seagrass Carpets

When it comes to carpeting your home or office it’s really important that you choose the correct type of carpet to lay.  I know this only too well from running a business carpet cleaning in London for nearly 10 years.  Choose the wrong one and you can have big problems with maintaining it.  This has become an increasingly big problems as people choose more unusual types of carpets for their homes and sometimes even office.  When I talk about maintaining a carpet I mean the ability to clean it, remove stains and generally keep it looking neat and tidy.     One of the most basic issues in this discussion is the colour of the carpet.  Over the years there has been a big increase in people fitting beige, and sometime nearly white, coloured carpets in their properties.  I can understand why they do this.  A light coloured carpet makes the property look bigger and brighter.  This is particularly appealing if you’re trying to sell or rent out a property.  It’s all about perception.   Unfortunately light coloured carpets are not very practical in shared house, students for example, and for those with young families.  In these scenarios you tend to get a lot of spillages and accidents.   When this happens people don’t alway think of calling for a carpet cleaner and tend to choose to have a go themselves.  To help you choose a reliable company see this post.  This usually involves the use of inappropriate spotters from the supermarket and can make things worse.   So the moral of the story is choose a carpet colour that suits who’s living in a property.  It will extend the life of it and reduce the amount of time and effort you need to maintain it.   Another important issue is to choose a carpet type that is cleanable.  As much as a part silk, or bamboo based rug or carpet looks great there is a big issue when it comes down to carpet cleaning.  Buying a rug that is only dry cleanable means you have issues when it comes to dealing with the kids spilling some food or being sick on it.  Quite often you simply won’t be able to get rid of the stain.  Recently I saw a heavily stained wool and silk rug which had been placed under the family dining table.  The family had young kids and it wasn’t long before this rug was beyond cleaning.   Another carpet type that I see often throughout London is seagrass type flooring.  This stuff is remarkably durable and will last for many years more than many wool or synthetic type surfaces.  However, as London carpet cleaners will agree on, they are terrible to clean.  Using water on such surfaces will lead to issues of shrinkage and water marks.  The other available carpet cleaning methods are often not able to remove problem stain and general traffic lane problems.  Again I have seen people put this flooring in dining rooms and living room where kids play and eat.   This leads us back to what type of carpet should you use.  I’d normally suggest either wool, a wool and synthetic mix, or a simply synthetic carpets.  While we could discuss the merits of each for a long time it usually comes down to cost.  Wool carpets cost significantly more but will last for a lot longer.  They will respond well to cleaning and will look good years after cheaper carpets will have needed replace.   We have years of experience cleaning all manner of carpets in the London area.  We have cleaned them all using a variety of different techniques from standard Hot Water Extraction, or steam cleaning, to completely dry methods.  We have remove stains from all manner of carpets and rugs, again using a multitude of different chemicals and spotters.  These days we do all this using green cleaning methods and solutions.   So, for carpet cleaning London, give us a call today on 0203 598 6188.
